I love to sleep. That moment when my head hits the pillow and I know my day is done. I can just let go of those worrisome thoughts and turn off my brain. For a full 5 min. Because then I remember everything I forgot that day or some little person wakes up and needs a drink of water but really need to go the bathroom. We had a horrible stretch with Bear where he thought it was fun to stay up from 12am-4am talking about why the sun wasn’t up. I learned fast that kids need sleep as much as adults. And adults need kids to sleep unless they have a great coffee supplier. Continue reading

I’m in full on Back to School mood these days. Bear is 4 so it’s not full on school time for us yet. But September mean schedules and events and soccer and CrossFit kids and and and….. Did I pack any snacks? Who has clean underwear on? Did they brush their teeth? With all the shifts in schedules and new events going on how’s a mom to maintain to awesomeness and not get overwhelmed?
Oh summer! How I love you. Long days of fun and stuff…. Honestly I’m burnt out. Summer is great. And we’ve had lots of fun this year. But man I can not wait to have our schedule back. The bears have free range during summer but September means Mama Bears back at the reigns. Continue reading
This is where you can really get some great insight into what it takes to make good, real food. You can also get a bit confused with all that’s going on. When I went to my first farmers market is was totally overwhelmed. I had no idea what to do. I think I grabbed a few carrots and ran back to my car. It wasn’t until a few seasons later I realized I could actually talk to the people handing me the carrots. I could ask them questions and they would gladly answer them. In fact most farmers relish the chance to talk about their work. And why not?! It’s a pretty sweet gig.
So if you’ve stuck with me this far, congrats! It’s now time for a little fun in this process. Organizing your pantry. This is where your personality can shine through. Are you as obsessed with labels and symmetry as I am? Or do you just want to know what you have and how much?

It’s almost January!! Let’s make a bunch of random promises to ourselves that we’re not going to keep! That’s what I thought every January. I would start out with a random plan that didn’t reflect my goals. “I’m going to start a diet.” “I’m going to craft more.” I would make “deals” with myself. “I can have this cake if I don’t eat anything else bad today.” It was a train wreck from January till about March when it had all fallen apart anyway. This past week I was on what can only be called a very lively plane ride to Utah. Turbulence was an understatement. Hubs was holding it together by playing Fallout Shelter and I “listened” to how proteins are digested. Holy crap was I happy to get to Utah. ::breathe::
We haven’t traveled in a long time so I wanted to make sure this trip was a good one. Thinking back on past trips, I saw a common theme. “Hangry traveling”. It can bring down the strongest of worldly travelers. I know I can be a pain when hungry and hubs can shut down if not fueled properly. So I put more thought into our on flight snacks then I did to what we packed for clothes. I know I packed enough underwear so I’m good. Continue reading

I get asked a lot about how much people should be eating. It’s a really hard question to answer in a few short minutes. It’s a personal in depth, quest seeking sort of question. One that leads to more questions before you find the answer. So if you ever find yourself asking “How much should I be eating?” Stop and ask yourself “What are my goals for eating?” Do you want to gain weight or lose it? Are you in training mode or off season? Do you have restrictions with food or are you good to go? Too many questions to be searching the internet for personal answers. I always tell people right off the bat, go to a nutritionist! Doctors can help. But most doctors never receive any real training when it comes to food. BTW that’s just crazy to me. Continue reading
