My descent into smoothie bowls…

A few weeks ago I was invited to a smoothie bowl workshop at Wholefoods in Lynnfield MA. I wish I had never gone.

Aside from having to meet new people who turned out to be awesome and offer a bunch of help for my blog, I also learned about these mysterious “smoothie bowls” that had taken over my Pinterest feed. I had seen them and thought, well that’s one more thing I’ll be “meaning to try” But there I sat with a bowl of what I could only assume was what the hulk ate every morning.

But I’m always up for something new. So I listened to the ingredients and was pretty impressed. Coconut water, spinach, spirulina, mango, frozen bananas, chia seeds and my choice of toppings. Looking at the ingredients you could see why after eating this I felt ready to take on the day. In the summer coconut water is a great way to make sure you are staying hydrated. Chia seeds add in a good boost of Omega 3. Spinach is a super food in and of its self. And spirulina, well an other power house food! Did you know dried spirulina contains about 60% protein? And it contains all essential amino acids? Score!

Needless to say I am now a huge fan of these incredibly healthy breakfast options. So here’s a basic smoothie bowl recipe for you to try. The fun part about these is there’s really no wrong way to make them.
