This morning as I was being told by big Bear that I was taking to long in the shower (he’s 4 and I was in there for 15min) I realized I was out of my fav deodorant. Toms of Maine. Love that brand. They really work hard to put out good products that are really good for you.
Anyway after the holidays I’m always on a DIY kick and figured it would be a great time to finally try to make my own deodorant. I had everything I needed in my kitchen. It’s like my own little store of awesome sometimes. And sometimes it’s a barren waste land. But today I was in luck.
I recently got a free sample of PB 8™ Probiotic Supplement from Smiley360. Since I had a few left over I figured I would put them to good use.
Why use a probiotic deodorant you ask? I asked that too. Why not just stick with any store brand? Personally I feel the fewer synthetic ingredient we can out on our body the better. Plus did you know we always have some sort of bacteria on our skin? It’s true, can’t wash it off. And it’s not a bad thing. Probiotic help to balance the bacteria in your gut. So the thought is that they will help to balance the bacteria on your skin as well. There is tons of research out there to prove or disprove the correlation between commercial deodorant and health. Please do some research and use what you feel is best for you 🙂
Here’s what I made for me 😉
You will need:
3oz Coconut oil
1oz Bees Wax (always go with the pellet bees wax! Time saver!!)
1/4 cup Arrowroot
3 capsules of PB 8 Probiotic Supplement (or any probiotic)
15-20 drops of Essential Oils of your chose (I used Tea Tree)
Melt the coconut oil and bees wax in a double boiler or a mini crock pot. Once you see the wax is all melted add in the arrowroot, probiotic and essential oil. Stir everything until well blended. Have a jar ready since the oil and wax may start to congeal. The final product should look like a think cream. When you are ready to use it, just scoop a little out of the jar and apply to your underarm.
